What is the undergraduate Academic Plan?

An academic plan is a student-created semester-by-semester plan of the courses a student intends to take at Iowa State. You will have access to an Academic Plan Template based on your student's current primary program of study. The Academic Plan is customizable to add additional coursework if your student is planning on completing additional programs of study (minors, additional majors, etc.). Creating an academic plan is highly encouraged but not required.

Advantages of the undergraduate Academic Plan

After completing an academic plan, students can create a saved schedule for registration. The academic plan will also serve as a good resource to help develop a timeline for program completion. This is a tool intended to help guide a student's time at Iowa State.

How to create and update an Academic Plan

Advisors can also create academic plans for students. Advisors can navigate to a student’s profile by searching for the student’s name or ID number in the Workday search bar in this format:

  • student: student name OR
  • student: student ID number

Advisors will then navigate to the Academics menu and the Plan tab to help in the creation of an academic plan.

How to view a student's Academic Plan

To view a student’s Academic plan, navigate to the Academic menu on the student’s profile. Then select the Plan tab to view any academic plans the student may have created.
